What Changed?

• Previous Conditions: Multi-lane road with buses and general traffic, limited footpath space, poor pedestrian amenity
• New Design: Fully pedestrianised or light-rail-only zone from Hay Street to Hunter Street
• Street Features Added:
  • Wide stone paving and shared surfaces
  • Street trees and green infrastructure
  • Integrated street furniture and lighting
  • Flexible event space and outdoor dining

Community Involvement

The project was guided by the City of Sydney’s Sustainable Sydney 2030 strategy and included public exhibitions, business engagement, and design competitions. The use of the light rail as a catalyst helped align state and city government priorities.
